چکیده

San Miguel (or Chaparrastique) volcano, El Salvador, erupted on the 29th December 2013, after almost 40 years of quiescence. Initial vent-clearing explosions ejected ballistic blocks and produced a pyroclastic density current (PDC) that flowed down upper flanks. Plume rise speeds peaked at 50–70 m s-1 declined over time. The main phase VEI 2 eruption Subplinian plume dispersed 106 m3 ash >20 000 km2 across Salvador in to Honduras. structure was complex due strong wind shear contributions from co-PDC ash. Tephra fall deposits westwards include basal white layer ash-coated clasts aggregates, grey fine layer, coarse lapilli-grade scoria. provides useful case study understand range volcanic activity volcano refine hazard maps.

Monitoring and behavior of unsaturated volcanic pyroclastic in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador, El Salvador

Field monitoring and laboratory results are presented for an unsaturated volcanic pyroclastic. The pyroclastic belongs to the latest plinian eruption of the Ilopango Caldera in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador, and is constantly affected by intense erosion, collapse, slab failure, sand/silt/debris flowslide and debris avalanche during the rainy season or earthquakes. Being the flowslides m...

Subaqueous explosive eruption and welding of pyroclastic deposits.

Silicic tuffs infilling an ancient submarine caldera, at Mineral King in California, show microscopic fabrics indicative of welding of glass shards and pumice at temperatures >500 degrees C. The occurrence indicates that subaqueous explosive eruption and emplacement of pyroclastic materials can occur without substantial admixture of the ambient water, which would cause chilling. Intracaldera pr...
